Friday Reflections

1.) I've missed this so much. It's been so long I did it that I don't even know if I know how to do it anymore.

2.) Regina King talks about the grief of losing her only child. I feel like I should say something profound here but I can't. There is nothing that can be said except I pray God himself comforts her.

3) Yes, after making a hoopla, I came back, rather unceremoniously too.

4.) Once a beacon of democracy in Africa, Senegal was dangerously close to the brink of democratic collapse. Democracy prevailed though because elections eventually were held and Faye is the new president.  But I'm worried.

5.) I'm worried about the insane rise and spread of fascism. And how even people with the most common sense are prone to losing it.

6.) Hundred small acts of love. This is the sweetest thing I've read all year. If you read it, and you don't smile a little...listen that's just impossible. I was gonna place a bet on that but this is the worldwide web; some of y'all are grumpy. Not gonna empty my lifesavings trying to pay up LOL.

7) I just finished reading Being Mortal by Atul Gawande. I had been anxious to read it because I knew it was that type of book. Then I got started and it was pretty cool; just dealt with the issues very mechanically and such. Like "hey, the body goes through wear and tears". Maybe one or two devastating stories. At first. Then it got worse. It got very depressing. This book made me shed hot, sad tears. It's an important book to read about our mortality but it doesn't make it any less difficult to read.

8) Candace whatever-her-name-is is what happens when the grift has to scale up. And those ignorant folks on The Breakfast Club (TBC)  have given her a platform, which is terribly unfortunate. Just to be clear and to not mince words, Candace whaterver-her-name-is IS dangerous for Black people.

9.) Speaking of ignorance and TBC, Charlamagne and his ilk are what happen when real journalists are fired and in their place, they platform barely educated folks with no critical or analytical capabilities . Because at the most basic, a question to ask is why has candace justified every single killing of unarmed black men. And guess what, the people at TBC, a glorified gossip show, did not engage at this basic level.

10.) Anyway, I'm happy to be back here! Did you miss Friday Reflections?

See you next time! Or let's hang more on Instagram.

Love,

I
