Birthday Wishlist

Ho ho ho, it's that time of the year again. I said here that I was going to make a wish-list, I wasn't joking. Anyway...so it got to my attention that some of you have been having sleepless nights and worrying about what exactly Ife wants. Well, your prayers have been answered, I am dedicating an entire blog-post to what I want. Yay. LOL. I kid. I kid. I am taking a break from studying. How else to do that than to write a wish-list? Hopefully, God is reading (listening?). In no particular order, these are the things I have been day dreaming about in my spare time:

1. Sun and the beach a.k.a a vacation in a place with an exotic name.
Look I lied when I said 'in no particular order', you can use that for the rest of the list. But this definitely tops the list. I really WANT some sunshine, but even more I want to go to a beach to just sit down and stare. I REALLY want to go to a beach. But what I want even more than those is to visit a place I have never been, just for the fun of it.

2.) Wigs and weaves for daysss from RPGShow
Don't ask me why it has to be RPGshow. Even I don't have an answer to that. I just know I want a wig like this or like this.

3.) Nutribullet
Go back to the beginning of this post to remind yourself these are wants. A Nutribullet makes it easier to have healthy drinks. As you may already know or not, I don't take soda. I got on the smoothie train recently, and let's just say, yumm.

4.) Bags
A girl can never have enough bags. Check out this Michael Kors beauty.
5.) Neither can a girl have enough shoes. To be honest with you, even I don't know how humanly possible it is to walk in these.

6.) Camera:
When I go on that vacation in number one, I can't trust this my nonsense Samsung S4 to capture the memories for me. Hence, my need for a bad-ass camera.

Okay folks, I think that's about it. I have to get back to work.  I have deadlines to meet.

In the meantime though, this is mostly a joke especially to you human species. To God though, and the universe, I am hopeful. All that I need, I have. Thank you, God. I am thankful to God a whole lot. This keeps me in the birthday spirit, and it helps to actually look forward to the day with excitement. Otherwise, lawl birthdays are literally just another day as far as I am concerned. I have forgotten my birthday before (TRUE STORY). Lol

Love,
I

Friday Reflections

1.) This week's episode of Modern Family was DOPE. Haha

2.) Every Thursday, I always try to work really hard during the day. Because in the night, Shonda Rhimes, in collaboration with #TGIT takes four hours of my life. If I could devote my commitment to those shows to something/someone else, I'm sure I'll be better off in life.

3.) But then again, all work and no play makes Ife really dull.

4.) See, Netflix/TV shows are my own 'play'. I don't enjoy partying. I don't even take alcohol. But only a few things make me happier than curling up in fetus position and watching my favorite show. Only a few.

5.) Speaking of shows, Empire is on FIRE.

6.) It's my birthday in a week. Just for the fun of it, I'm going to make a wish list. (No pressure friends and family, it's just for fun hehe)

7.) I used to be really about zodiac signs, but I don't think they make any sense. I mean, Rihanna is also Piscean? Makes no sense that two extreme personalities like hers and mine would belong to the same zodiac sign.

8.) But then again, I can agree we are both expressive/artistic, the way we express the creativity is just really different.

9.) I don't know why I haven't been blogging, I have so many things on my mind.

10.) Ok let me just put this out here; Fellow Nigerians, I'm not saying it's a must to support GMB or any other change to current administration, just don't sound like a retard or an idiot in the process of trying desperately hard to defend this current administration.

11.) I Tweet a lot these days.

Brandon Stanton of Humans of New York

I can be obsessive. When I want something, I FIND it. No matter where it may be hidden, you better believe I will find it. I can obsess over things. The slight problem is that I hardly am passionate about anything, and getting my interest is HARD.  I remember I watched a movie with my family recently on Netflix; ABDUCTED: The Carlina White Story. It's a biographical film. Anyway, so my family had moved on to the next movie but I was buried deep in stories, news reports, interviews, anything at all I could get my hands on about the real Carlina. I was curious. I wanted to know more. How did it happen? When did it happen? What were the circumstances? That's the way it is with me.

But besides this curiosity and obsessiveness, the one trait that has stayed with me all my life is that I absolutely love listening to people's personal stories. I want to know about random people. Who are they? What's their story? It's why I read memoirs, it's why I prefer biographies and true life stories, it's why I love listening to commencement speeches. I pride myself in being a good listener, although I may not tell you my own story (I hardly ever do). This is also why I am blown away by the Humans of New York idea. To be able to read the stories (extremely personal ones) of random New Yorkers, oh what a thrill. But you know what will even feed my obsession more? To know the story of the person behind the idea--actually, the genius behind the idea. That's how I found this video. He talks about how the idea came about, his own background, and of course, Humans of New York. Most importantly, HOW does he get people to be so comfortable with him, that they share deeply personal stories within MINUTES of meeting him?  Enjoy!

Humans of The World: The Vidal and Ms. Lopez's Story

Let me tell you a story. There is an account on Instagram, the owner of the account interviews random people on the streets of New York after taking a picture of them. He then posts their picture with a part of their story. See, I don't know how he does what he does, but Brandon (the photographer) also evokes an emotion in them; so much that they tell tear-jerking, intricately deep things about themselves. I tell you, it could be one line, but this one line would get you in deep thought for the rest of your life. I don't know where to begin to describe HumansofNY.  I wanted to munch some of the pictures to put here, but why give you some tidbits when you can head over to the Instagram or the Facebook page to see things for yourself? Besides, I am watching a new episode of Grey's Anatomy live, and I am missing so much action haha. #TGIT people. However, when I saw the latest development with the story I am blogging about, I just couldn't hold back. I posted on Facebook and decided to post here too. Just because, we all need stories like this to remind us of the good in this world.
When we first met Vidal.

Then we met Ms. Lopez...
Things started to get pretty serious.

Well, they started a campaign to institute an annual class trip to Harvard for students at Ms. Lopez's school, Mott Hall Bridges Academy. In a few hours, they raised $185,000.
Another student of the school.

Aww someone randomly sent Ms. Lopez flowers--or some people

He made the Daily news!

Yay Nigeria!
Yayyyy!
And then he made it to Ellen...
They shot a segment with Robin Robert
So I will end this LONG post with my Facebook status tonight...

"I have been following this story from the first moment HumansofNY interviewed Vidal. Heck, haven't we all? The famous Vidal. But to see him here, to see him with Obama, I have never been so inspired my entire life. What? Like woahh! I am just so speechless. But then again, this just preaches hard-work and commitment and selflessness. Ms. Lopez has been a hero to all those children without ever expecting anything back.

I guess I am even more inspired because I never had a Ms. Lopez in my life; I never had a teacher so invested in me the way she is with ALL her students. However, people like Vidal need the Ms. Lopez(s) of this world more than people like me. So yeah, HumansofNY is literally changing the world yo! One picture at a time..."

Love, and some inspiration,
I
