Friday Reflections

1.) Friday greetings to all! Let's get into it.

2.) Republicans have serious daddy issues and it's kind of odd to watch.

No reason for a Fall photo in the thick of summer except I just like how it looks quiet

3.) "Self Righteousness is Boring."  I've consumed a lot of Chimamanda interview and I had never ever seen her cry or get so emotional till this one with Sam Fragoso. It's in large part because of the way Sam took care of her (for lack of a better word) during the interview. Someone in the comments said, "you just fall in love with both of them over and over again through the course of listening." I couldn't agree more.

4.) A psychologist who studies narcissists teaches us how to stop the current Narcissist-in-Chief, essentially, starve the narcissist of attention, drama, emotional reactivity. I agree. But also how can we turn a blind eye to this desecration of institutions? It's easier, I will say, to have a narcissist for a parent, spouse, child, friend, than for a president. In all, it's a long game: pace yourselves, y'all.

5.) Yiyun Li on the suicide of both her sons. What an unimaginable, shattering tragedy. No words.

6.) Suleika Jaouad on why live everyday like it's your last is bad advice. (More below)

7.) I recently found out an old colleague and friend passed away. He was only 34. I went back to our most recent messages and how halted everything seems, how unfinished. Yeah, let's chat soon. Let's grab coffee soon. That sounds good. And his very last written words to me: I appreciate the update! He was a good man. People say this a lot about people that die because death confers sainthood but honestly, in every way, he was. Good, caring, kind, warm, and just the brightest smile. And he was all of this in a cutthroat work environment. Despite it. I always thought living everyday like it's your last was too difficult and when Suleika (who is on her third bout of Leukemia) also expressed the same sentiment, I felt affirmed. So, don't live everyday like it's your last—live it like it's your first, like there's still so much to see and do and be. And God willing, there is.

Love,

I
